Subtle anatomy such as the Antahkarana, Nadis, and Subtle Bodies influence our health, well-being, and spiritual evolution.
Subtle anatomy is a key aspect of holistic healing and spiritual practices that integrates the delicate, yet resilient energy systems within and around us. This includes the key energetic components of our being, such as the Antahkarana, Nadis, and Subtle Bodies – elements that bridge our physical being with the ethereal, and our conscious experiences with spiritual ones. Understanding of these components can enrich our spiritual path, nurturing a deeper union with our inner self and the infinite universe. These systems influence our health, well-being, and spiritual evolution, opening us to the inner wisdom that guides us toward enlightenment and self-discovery.
In this video, Sai Maa leads us through a meditation of activating the subtle bodies and the chakras, sharing with us ways to stay in alignment and amplify our connection with the Divine through the subtle anatomy.
The subtle bodies encompass a field of energy surrounding the physical body, containing seven primary chakras. Similar to the layers revealed by a Russian Doll, this subtle anatomy, not visible to the naked eye, functions within electromagnetic fields around all living entities. Kirlian photography captures these emanations in plants and animals, which shows us that these fields, although unseen by most, are real. The subtle body’s aura, an outward expression seen as a glow or series of spindle-like fibers around the body, reflects the inner workings of these energy centers. These layers serve as the scaffold for the chakras.
The etheric body is an energetic duplicate of the physical body, serving as an interface between the material and subtle realms. Extending about an inch beyond the physical form, it channels life force energy, which is important for maintaining health and vitality and intricately linked to the functioning and well-being of the physical body.
The emotional body intricately connects with our emotional state and experiences encompassing our feelings, emotions, and sensitivities. Extending about 12 inches or more from the physical form, its size varies according to individual dynamics and emotional equilibrium. It serves as a conduit through which we experience and process our emotions, influencing our mental and physical well-being.
The mental body holds our patterns of thoughts and beliefs. Each thought can solidify into a belief system, leaving its mark and influencing our perspective of life and the world. Clarity arises when we release these beliefs, allowing Source creativity to shine. Interlinked with the emotional body, it influences and is influenced by our emotions. Extending about 18 inches from the physical form, it offers immense potential for transformation.
The fourth layer of subtle anatomy, the causal body, holds the imprints of karma from past actions, thoughts, and experiences. It also stores contracts made before embodiment. Extending about 2 feet beyond the physical form, it clears and radiates when we release past karma through aligned choices in the present moment, reflecting our true essence.
The spiritual body is where higher vibrations of energy first enter before flowing into the physical realm. This body holds past life experiences related to spirituality and becomes clear and radiant through constant awareness of our divine nature in each moment, which is deepened through spiritual practice.
Dayananda Das explains in this video how we are multilayered and multidimensional beings. Every aspect of who we are, emotionally, physically, and spiritually, is layered.
The concept of nadis plays a crucial role in Yoga and Ayurveda, representing the subtle channels through which life force, or prana, flows within our being. Derived from the Sanskrit root “nad,” meaning channel, stream, or flow, nadis are akin to the veins of our subtle energy body, radiating out from the chakras and facilitating communication throughout our physiology. Ancient Vedic texts posit the existence of approximately 72,000 nadis, each serving as conduits of energy that influence our physical, mental, and spiritual health.
Among these vast numbers of channels, three nadis are more commonly referred to – Sushumna, Ida, and Pingala. The Sushumna, central to the spiritual journey, connects the root chakra at the base of the spine to the crown chakra at the top of the head, intersecting all other chakras along its path. It is the channel through which Kundalini Shakti, when awakened at the root chakra, ascends, clearing and purifying each chakra it passes through, ultimately leading to enlightenment.
“The shushumna is the Goddess (the Shakti), who takes care of the form
part of us.” ~ Her Holiness Sai Maa
On either side of Sushumna, Ida and Pingala weave from the root to the crown chakra, crossing each other and the Sushumna at every chakra point. Ida, beginning from the right side of the root chakra and associated with feminine energy and the right side of the brain, embodies the moon’s cooling qualities. Conversely, Pingala, originating from the left side of the root chakra and associated with masculine energy and the left side of the brain, channels the sun’s warming energies. When these three nadis—Ida, Pingala, and Sushumna—are clear, they allow for the unimpeded flow of life force and Kundalini Shakti from the base to the crown of the spine, harmonizing our physical, mental, and spiritual faculties and fostering a radiant state of being.
The Antahkarana is an energetic tube of light that extends from the crown chakra through our Higher Self and into Source. This concept is interpreted differently across various teachings, but the essence remains consistent: it serves as a conduit for high-frequency light to flow from Source, emphasizing connection with the Higher Self and integration into our subtle and physical energies. Maa shares that the Antahkarana anchors in the heart chakra, with light energy extending into the physical heart. Its primary function is to facilitate the continuous exchange of energy between ourselves and higher dimensions, ensuring a constant connection with our Higher Self. This energetic channel allows us to welcome and invoke more light, wisdom, and love into our being, encouraging a deeper alignment with our true essence and purpose.
In yoga and spiritual traditions, prana is the vital life force, and the chakras are the body’s energy centers, and they share a profound connection. Prana circulates through nadis or energy channels, with the chakras positioned along the spine, acting as regulators of this energy flow. This relationship ensures our physical, emotional, and spiritual health. Practices like pranayama (breath control), meditation, and yoga asanas are designed to enhance prana’s flow, thereby activating and balancing the chakras. Furthermore, the awakening of Kundalini Shakti, believed to lie dormant at the spine’s base, involves directing prana into and upward through the chakras for spiritual enlightenment. Thus, a harmonious flow of prana through these energy centers is crucial for maintaining overall well-being and advancing spiritual growth, emphasizing the integral role of chakras in distributing and regulating life force energy within the body.
In this video, Shree Devi Maa takes us through a cell-energizing pranayama practice. She explains how this variation of the kapalabhati breathing technique can enhance the flow of prana throughout our entire physical and energetic being. This enhances quality of life, joy, health, and overall well-being in the body, mind, and spirit.
Kundalini is described as a sacred, dormant, divine feminine energy or Shakti located at the base of the spine symbolized as a coiled serpent. When the Kundalini awakens (this may be by the grace of a spiritual master) it ascends through the central channel, Sushumna, activating all chakras up to the crown, and facilitating a union of the individual’s divine feminine and divine masculine aspects—Shakti and Shiva. This profound transformation enhances one’s life force, shifting focus from worldly desires to spiritual aspirations, and purifying the energetic system for heightened sensory perceptions and a deeper divine connection. The Guru plays a crucial role in this process, removing spiritual ignorance and enabling direct experiences of the divine, ultimately leading to a life enriched by higher consciousness and spiritual union. Once awakened, Kundalini enhances one’s life force, bringing about a shift from a focus on the outer world to the inner world. The energy continues to cleanse and elevate our energetic presence, enabling a life of higher consciousness and encouraging our union with the divine.
“A Master who you work with will burn your karma, maybe 99.99%, but will leave some so you can learn about choice and awareness. When Kundalini Shakti enters the first chakra, it goes up the spine and comes down, and as it moves, the Kundalini eats all impurities, but 1%. If we take all your karma from you, you will never have awareness of choice.”
