In 2019, Magdalena Healing partnered with two well-known researchers, Sister Angela Ekwonye, a PhD research scientist who is an expert in the intersection of spirituality and wellness, and Dr. Alvina Bruggemann, who has extensive experience in the study of spirituality and integrative medicine. These two were interested in working with us to begin formal research to study the impact of Magdalena Healing Sessions. The researchers began with a qualitative research study in which they interviewed 25 adults who had received a Magdalena Healing Session to learn about their experience and the perceived benefits of the sessions.
This study discusses the multiple perceived benefits participants reported. Including: improvement of physical symptoms (from migraine to joint pain and digestive issues), mental benefits (such as improvement in symptoms of depression, clarity of thought), social benefits (improvement in attitudes in relationships), and spiritual benefits (including self-awareness, connection to the divine).
There’s a feeling of gratitude like a limitless expansion of something that is so wonderful. It’s a deep sensation of being filled from the divine and it’s just like, oh my God, this is just so good for my heart, for my soul. ~ Participant
This study discusses participants’ experiences of energy and themselves both during and after Magdalena Healing sessions. These include: during the session participants reported movement and release of energy, changes in sensation and feeling, and transcendent experiences; after the session participants reported sustained feelings of lightness, increased positive emotions, increased self-awareness (awareness of patterns in mental, emotional, and physical), and deeper spiritual connection.
I felt like some anxiety started to loosen up. Like I get kind of knots in my body and I could feel that starting to loosen up; an energy flowing out to my hands and feet, which helped me feel really relaxed. And then this just sense of well-being, like things are okay. ~ Participant
